Organization World Festival of Sacred Music
History WFSM began in 1999 as a one-time event in Los Angeles as a response to a letter from H.H. the Dalai Lama suggesting that every country greet the Millennium and recommit to peace and universal responsibility through programmes of music. Based on his idea, the Foundation of World Arts produced the 1999 Festival. Festivals were held in Los Angeles in 2002, 2005, and 2008, with one planned for October 1st through 16th, 2011. To date some 226 multidisciplinary events featuring 7,000 artists have taken place at 195 diverse venues across the city to a total attendance of 300,000.
